Why you should choose Uniforest

Uniforest machines are the right choice for everyone who requires high quality, technological perfection and low maintenance costs. At the same time the work is safe and user friendly.

Because we care about the world we are leaving behind, the Uniforest forestry mechanization is constructed from materials that can be recycled in up to 99-%. Energy efficiency and BIO oils, used for the machine work are further reasons that support sustainable usage.

How do I upkeep the winches with chains and chain links?

The chain has to be lubricated every 200 operating hours with any special chain spray lubricant resistant to high temperature as the grease can come into the friction linings of the clutch.

Firstly, remove the PTO protection (make sure to place it back again when you finish lubricating the chain). Clean the chain before lubricating it. Avoid applying lubricant to the places where it could spill to the clutch from.

If the lubricant gets spilled into the friction linings of the clutch, the pulling force is reduced and the clutch plates have to be replaced.

The winch's pulling force is too weak (it doesn't pull correctly).

Check the amount of oil and look for leaks in the hydraulic system. If you detect an oil leak, it is possible that the friction lining is stained and needs to be replaced. It may also be greasy due to incorrect lubrication of the chain.

If the friction lining is clean and dry, it must be polished and all other iron sliding surfaces must be cleaned of rust.

Clutch slippage also reduces system pressure. There are several possible reasons why the pressure is too low: faulty pump, air entering the suction part of the system, discharge valve, etc. We suggest that you contact your local service representative in our extensive distribution network.

More information on machine errors can be found in the user manual.

The brake doesn’t hold or it loosens.

If the brake is loose, the operator should reset it. Correcting the length of the braking belt can increase the braking force, but it must not be done beyond the normal pulling of the rope out of the drum. Water and dust are not as harmful as the mud. The latter is greasy and thus can cause the brake to let the drum slide instead of keeping it firm. When the mud dries, the brake should grip again. The mud can be washed from the inside of the winch. Point a gentle stream of clean water through the wire replacement opening and the dirt should be washed out through the dirt drain at the bottom of the winch.

It is also possible, that the braking belt is greasy, deformed or has another mechanical malfunction on the braking system or hydraulic.

More about the machine errors can be found in the user manual.

The wire rope cannot be pulled out of the drum, the unwinding device is not working or is working poorly.

The unwinding system is working properly when the wire rope can be pulled out of the drum manually if the brake is open. If the system is not working in such a way, then it is possible that the wire is wound crosswise, damaged (knots) or the pressure of the upper rollers is too strong. apart from that, the brake or prebrake can be fastened too strongly.

More about the machine errors can be found in the user manual.

What is the hand-fastened screw with a safety nut used for?

This is the prebrake which prevents unwanted rotations of the drum. In case the drum rotates after we stop unwinding, the wire rope can loosen or even cause a jam in the hydraulic system. Due to the load weight the wire rope gets stuck between the turns and get deformed. That can cause compression or breaking damages. The prebrake is set by the winch user as needed. The proper set-up allows an easy manual pull of the wire rope out of the drum and makes the drum stop when we stop unwinding. When pulling a heavier burden, the prebrake has to be tightened.

More about the machine errors can be found in the user manual.

The winch is inactive!

Check the tractor plug in. The minimum voltage is 10V (unloaded 12.2V) and also, check the polarity. When impossible to determine whether the plug is working, try to plug the winch into another tractor.

The electronic control turns on the green LED light. If the light isn’t on, the fuse should be inspected and if necessary, also replaced by the back-up fuse in the electronics box.

Check the cables of the limit switch and connectors on the valves.

If the pressure is too low, check the pump chain, oil quantity and pump operation.

More about the machine errors can be found in the user manual.

How do I check the oil quantity in the hydraulic system?

The oil quantity is checked the same way for all winches: with the dipstick on the reservoir plug or through the oil control window. The oil has to be checked when the pressure is 0bar. This is done by turning off the PTO shaft and pressing the functions on cable console or remote control. With every press, the pressure should drop.

More about the machine errors can be found in the user manual.

Which forestry winch should I choose?

Before deciding on a winch model, it is important to know the capacity of your tractor, the terrain on which you are likely to use it and how often you will use it. For example, smaller winches are more suitable for smaller and lighter tractors. If you plan to handle logs on flatter, smoother terrain, one of the simpler models may suffice (such as the eco), but when operating on slopes, any winch with a gearbox, preferably electro-hydraulic with an integrated gearbox, is a better choice.

Occasional users generally opt for mechanical winches. On the other hand, professional or more intensive use requires an electro-hydraulic winch. The latter increases safety, ease of use and efficiency compared to the same range as the mechanical skid winch. The electro-hydraulic models are the most demanding of our wide range of winches, but users are really satisfied with their performance.

Can the unwinding device be mounted on the mechanical winch?

That is not possible. The unwinding device can only be mounted on the electro-hydraulic winch.

What is the difference between a mechanical winch with a reductor and without one?

Winches with the reductor reduce the speed of the wire. The winches with no reductor have an average speed of 0.9m/s at 540rpm, while the ones with a reductor, have a winding wire speed of about 0.6m/s at 540rpm. A slower pace means safer work and less load in case the log is stuck on an obstacle. Skidding is more efficient due to the lower engine speed and consequently fuel usage. On top of that, tractors with lower power can pull heavier logs due to the more gradual winding.

What is the difference between a single or multi-plate clutch?

A multi-plate clutch prevents slipping or overheating thanks to the bigger bearing surface.

Why/when to choose professional forestry winch with a gear drive.

Intense forestry work is better met with the skidding winches equipped with a gear drive from the G and GK series as well as with the winch heads. No chains or chain links are used in the operation of these winches, while all the components of the gear are submerged in oil. The latter is a closed system that prevents dirt and foreign particles intrusion and thus results in less maintenance and longer service life of the skidding winch.

When investing in the professional winch, it is likely to expect:

  • a lower maintenance costs due to the above-mentioned enclosed system of the gear components in the oil bath,
  • the winch drum placed along the driving direction can be wider, thus it allows for a longer wire rope while less pulling force is lost (also applies to the models without constant pulling force),
  • a longer lifespan of the wire rope thanks to single direction winding and unwinding,
  • the engine is bolted to the butt plate, so the latter can be easily replaced for a wider/narrower or even foldable hinged butt plate (when refurbishing or selling the winch),
  • the engine is placed behind the frame of the butt plate and is this way protected from damage.
What is a worm drive?

The worm drive allows higher gear ratios and is resistant to shock loads. The worm is made out of high alloy steel, and the worm ring consists of special wear-resistant bronze. To provide higher efficiency and longer life span, the worm drive is submerged in special lubricant. The symmetrical shape of the drive allows it to be driven from both sides.

Which vehicles can we fix the winch head onto?

The winch heads are usually mounted on larger tractors, along with the safety framework. The single or double drum winch head can be mounted on forestry tractors, forwarders, different excavators and forestry firefighting machines. The winch heads are usually mounted on the rear side of the tractor, but can also be fixed to the front.

What is a constant pulling force?

The main advantage of a constant pulling force is that the maximum pulling force does not vary as the drum diameter changes, thus the wire rope can be longer and lighter. A longer pulling wire rope increases the working area up to 20% and with weigh decreased for appx. 30%, it eases the forestry work even more.

Winches with a constant pulling force are more compact and can be fixed to tractors with less power in comparison to the winches without a constant pulling force. This increases the energy efficiency, and reduces damage to the undergrowth and environmental impact of the forestry works.

What is SMART 3in1?

Smart 3in1 is a function available for all hydraulic winches. It enables:

(1) When pulling logs with a tractor, you may encounter some obstacles on the road (hill, roots etc.). If the tractor is not able to overcome these obstacles, the unwinding function can be switched into the mode without the assistance of the unwinding device and you can continue driving with a taught wire rope between the winch and the load.

(2) The unwinding device can be turned on and off without delay (the standard model has a 1.5 sec. delay).

(3) The SMART 3in1 function ensures additional tension of the wire rope between the unwinding pulley and drum.

This function is only available with the remote controls Teleradio, Terra funk and manual console.

What is an unwinding device?

The unwinding device with a hydraulic motor can be mounted on a winch to ease the unwinding of the wire rope. A winch with an unwinding device also ensures tension of the wire rope between the unwinding pulley and the drum. This prevents damages to the unwinding device and enables a longer service life.

What is the AutoStop function?

AUTO STOP (limit switch) automatically turns off the winding function on the winch. This function is a standard function, integrated into all Hpro models and prevents mechanical damage to the unwinding device, jamming or damage to the pulling rope.

What are the main differences between the STANDARD and PREMIUM series of Uniforest Skidding Winches?

Forestry winches STANDARD are a basic variant of the chain-driven winches with a pulling force spanning from 3 to 8 tones. They can be operated mechanically or electro-hydraulically. All models have a foldable widow guard and plenty of room on the front side of the butt plate for the forestry choker chains and other accessories. STANDARD series winches come with a single-plate LUK clutch and can be mounted to the tractor at two different attaching heights. Every winch function is managed separately.

The Forestry winches PREMIUM are advanced and technologically perfected forestry winches for occasional or professional users. They can be operated mechanically or electro-hydraulically and come with a multi-plate LUK clutch and a patented lower pulley with a magnetic shutter. The pump of an electro-hydraulic PREMIUM winch is gear driven with the FAG ball bearings. The HAWE hydraulic block with the seat valve prevents the pressure loss, while the high-pressure filter and oil container are made of stainless steel. All components have anti-corrosion protection and protected inside of the winch frame. Large storage departments for forestry choker chains and other accessories can be found on the front side of the winch to keep the dirt from tractor wheels away from the chains and other accessories

What is important to know before using the winch for the first time?

Read the instructions carefully before using the forestry winch for the first time. Make sure to mount the winch to the tractor correctly and take the length of the PTO shaft into account. Before the first use, the chains and chain links do not need any lubrication. Never use oils or grease, but you can use the silicon lubricant spray (check the instruction manual for more info).

Unwind the wire rope all the way to the mark (you will notice the coloured sign a few meters towards the end of the wire) and wind it again tightly (read the instructions and the mark at the wire rope ending).

Which winches can be controlled remotely?

Remote controllers with different functions can be used with all electro-hydraulic winches. We offer German remote controls Tele Radio and Terra. All remote controls allow usage of the basic and special functions, such as SMART 3in1. You can choose between models with throttle control and Antikipp protection.

A special remote controller, the Terra FA5-D1 UNI was developed together with the producer to support functions of our electro-hydraulic forestry winches. It can be used with most of Uniforest winch models to improve the ergonomics, safety, and efficiency of our forestry machines.

What is Antikipp?

Antikipp is a remotely-controlled function that prevents the tractor from tipping over; if the tractor leans to one side too much, the winding of the rope wire is turned off instantly. We can preset the maximum inclination of the tractor in both directions (forward/backward or left/right).

Which firewood processor should I choose?

When purchasing the firewood processor, your main question should be how often will you use it. For everyday use, the machines with the circular saw (models TITAN 53/40 PREMIUM and TITAN 40/20 PREMIUM) are a better choice due to lower maintenance costs in comparison to the chainsaw bar. The circular saw cuts the logs faster and is more resistant to the irregularities in the wood.

However, if you prefer a lighter machine for occasional use, the TITAN 34/20J STANDARD is most friendly for occasional users as it can be operated with a Joystick and cuts with the strong harvester bar. For a more affordable price option, there is also a TITAN 34/20 STANDARD without the joystick.

Why is the TITAN 53/40 Premium (TITAN 40/20 Premium) eco-friendly?

The TITAN 53/40 Premium (TITAN 40/20 Premium) firewood processor cuts the logs with a 130cm (100cm) wide Widia circular saw. The circular saw is resistant to irregularities in the wood as its serrated part is made of carbide solids.

The circular saw requires less maintenance: one sharpening of the saw blade is sufficient to produce more firewood in comparison to a chainsaw bar. Less wear is caused by the particles of sand or gravel in the logs. Apart from that, the circular saw doesn’t need to be lubricated with oil, but it is necessary for the chainsaw. When using a chain the oil can mix with the sawdust, making it no longer usable as a side product. Chain lubrication requires over 50 litres of oil per month when using the full machine capacity. The TITAN 53/40 Premium (TITAN 40/20 Premium) also saves you time and money by cutting with the circular saw.

Can the telescopic lifting table be mounted to the firewood processor after the assembly?

No, telescopic lifting table can only be integrated to the firewood processor during the assembly of the machine. After the machine is finished, it is no longer possible.

Does the firewood processor come with wheels?

The firewood processors TITAN 40/20 Premium and TITAN 53/40 Premium are also available with wheels. Other TITANs are not available with wheels.

How long is the conveyor belt on the firewood processor?

The conveyor belt is 5m long.

What kind of splitting knife is used in the firewood processor?

The new TITAN 53/40 premium has an integrated hydraulically adjustable 2/4/8/18-way splitting knife. All other firewood processors, like the TITAN 40/20 premium, the TITAN 43/20 and the TITAN 43/20J come with one splitting knife of your choice (2-4, 2-6 or 2-8). For the latter three, there is also a 12-way knife available as optional equipment.

Firewood processor with the circular saw or with the chainsaw bar?

When purchasing the firewood processor, your main question should be how often will you use it. For everyday use, the machines with the circular saw (models TITAN 53/40 PREMIUM and TITAN 40/20 PREMIUM) are a better choice due to lower maintenance costs in comparison to the chainsaw bar. Apart from that, the circular saw cuts the logs faster and is more resistant to the irregularities in the wood.

However, if you prefer a lighter machine for occasional use, the TITAN 43/20J STANDARD is most friendly for occasional users as it can be operated with a Joystick and cuts with the strong harvester bar. For a more affordable price option, there is also a TITAN 43/20 STANDARD without the joystick.

What is BoomSpeed?

The BoomSpeed function shortens the splitting cycle while not changing the maximum possible force. A special solution for the cylinder and additional valves allow faster oil flow and a higher speed of the empty or less loaded plate. A shorter splitting cycle also means better energy efficiency, increased productivity of the machine and its operator.

Why do log splitters have an iron cast pump?

Using an iron cast pump for the log splitter means quieter operation and a longer service life.

What is Autospeed?

As the name itself says, Autospeed stands for automatic speed regulation. The axe paces faster towards the log, but at the point of contact, it adopts the splitting speed according to the type and structure of the wood. After the log is split, the axe returns quickly back to the starting position.

Does the log splitter have a log table?

All log splitter models are available with a single or double log table as optional equipment. The single log tables only offer one hight to place the log on, but the double log tables can be set to two different hights.

Can the log table and axe of the log splitter get damaged?

Uniforest log splitters have an integrated 3-phase shut-down mechanism to prevent log table or axe damage. The protection mechanism stops the axe before it hits the log table or the bottom of the log splitter.

Is working with the log splitter safe?

TITANIUM and MAGNUM log splitters have all safety components in accordance to the European and other global safety standards.

Can the log splitter be attached to the front of the tractor?

Tarjoamme 2 mallia halkomakoneita, jotka voidaan kiinnittää traktorin eteen: TITANIUM 23 CDF (21 t halkaisuvoima) ja TITANIUM 27 CDF (26 t halkaisuvoima).

Do log splitters have wheels?
